Prof. Dr. med. Silke Gillessen

Dear colleagues,

Prof. Dr. med. Silke Gillessen served for two terms as president of the SAKK Project Group Urogenital Tumors. During her time as president, the group has made a huge leap forward in terms of the quality of the research projects as well as the patients recruited. 

Since 2018, Silke Gillessen has been Genitourinary Cancer Systemic Therapy Research Chair at the University of Manchester and Honorary Consultant at The Christie Hospital, while continuing to work as Consultant in the Department of Oncology/Haematology at the Kantonsspital St.Gallen.

In January 2020 Prof. Gillessen was appointed Head of the Department of Medical Oncology, full professor at the Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI) in Lugano and Director of the Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland (IOSI) in Bellinzona.

I have known Silke Gillessen for many years and share her enthusiasm in oncology research. Therefore I strongly recommend her for the ESMO Nomination Committee Member position.
